The Channel Four programme was a superb balanced programme on Islam, difficult to manage in todays climate. For the many who drank in headlines and not fact - much less even watched it, they should go to UTube and watch the six segments of the programme. Those who gloat over extremism are taken apart by how the programme deals with the whole topic of Islam. There are - self evidently - extremist elements, it was right and proper to show the effects of those elements, and in typical Channel Four fashion, it did not pull their punches. It is however made clear in the programme, as opposed to drama seeking headlines to the contrary, that those elements are just that - extremist - do not represent mainstream Islam, and are equally reviled by mainstream Islam.

However to be under the delusion the programme somehow made the case against "nasty extremists" therefore all Islam is bad - however nasty they patently are - is to fly in the face of the whole balance of the programme, which has been lauded as one of the best fact documentaries ever made on a Religious topic. Not bad for a supposedly delusioned and biased Western Media.

It should also be of no surprise to find those depicted in any way with violence, however tenuously the moderate elements are, will react as predictably they did. However, no matter how much the extreme elements on both sides of the equation try, they are never going to discredit such a well founded and well made programme.

Full Marks to Channel Four, they took on and dealt with a difficult topic superbly well, and overall the mainstream faith of Islam came out extremely well.
